You probably have an online resume, most of us do, but did you know that if you are an online entrepreneur that your current resume may not be right.
For example, let’s say you have a standard resume that lists all the brick and mortar places that you worked at and when and where, but since you have been an online entrepreneur, when is the last time you have used it? If your are running your own website or blog this resume will not work, you need something different, something more like an entertainment resume.
Entertainment resumes list your accomplishments. What project you worked on, who directed it and what your part was. Your online resume needs to be about the same. What project you worked on, who it was for and what part you did. Just one line, no one wants to know every detail because if they do, one click on the hyperlink will tell them all they need to know. You can post this online resume on the internet and give the link out as needed. You can take a look at my online resume to get an idea what I am talking about:
But, this is not all you need, you should also have a bio and possible several bios if you are working on different projects with different themes. For example, if you want to apply for freelance writing jobs you need a bio that concentrates on that aspect. You don’t want to add that you are the webmaster of toolsRus.com as that will only complicated and muddy up your resume. If you want people to know about it, then do a separate bio for that theme. Add, any media attention you have received and you are done.
Keep samples of your best work. If you are a independent videographer you will want to have video samples, if you are a freelance writer, you will want writing samples. Have short and longer samples of your work, and in different subjects. For example, a website may want a 500 character example of an article on health insurance, where a newspaper may want a 350 character example on the restaurants in your home town.
Lastly, keep several different headshots of yourself. Some serious, some smiling, so you can mix and match depending on the subject.
Pick a day or a couple of days next week to get this all together, so you’ll be ready for the next opportunity that comes your way. Believe me I haven’t missed an opportunity since.
